The Hebrew Roots of America’s Blessings | Were the Pilgrims 7th Day Sabbath Keepers?

pilgrims1

Something has been bothering me for the last week or so. I have been wanting to get to the bottom of the issue of the Sabbath from the founding of America. What were the Pilgrims running from? What were they trying to accomplish? Why did YHVH (God) bless this country the way He did? Where the founding fathers of America Hebrew Roots? These are all questions that have been haunting me and now I can honestly say, YES, THEY WERE SABBATH-KEEPERS. This article traces the Pilgrims from England to Holland.  The Pilgrims were persecuted by Queen Elizabeth under the Uniformity Act, which required Sunday church attendance.  They fled to Holland where they were allowed to worship freely.  They joined with the Mennonite Church, which was a 7th Day Sabbath-keeping church.

My hope is to shed light on the fact that the Pilgrims attended a 7th Sabbath Keeping church and they left England because they were required by law to attend the Sunday Keeping churches. They originated from the Brownist or Separatist.

There were three Protestant groups in England starting in the 1600’s– The Conformist (which followed the Church of England), The Puritans ( which were opposed to many of the teachings of the Church of England but kept Sunday) and the Separatist (which was started by Robert Browne many of which kept the Old Testament laws).

Brownist Movement:

The term Brownists was a common designation for early Separatists before 1620. Brownists, Independents, and Separatists were all used somewhat interchangeably for those nonconformists who broke with the Church of England.

  • Robert Browne was a Puritan Congregationalist leader, one of the original proponents of the Separatist, or Free Church, movement among Non-conformists that demanded separation from the Church of England and freedom of state control. His separatist followers became known as Brownists. Educated at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, and ordained, he, with Robert Harrison, gathered a Separatist Church at Norwich in 1580. As a consequence of this and other similar activities, he was imprisoned 32 times and in 1582 was exiled.
(Encyclopaedia Britannica, Micropaedia, 15th Edition, 1990, Vol. 2, p. 562)

In 1582, under the influence of Dutch Mennonites (whose congregations had already existed separately before the Dutch Reformed Church became dominant), Browne published two tracts arguing for separation and for congregations with freely-entered mutual covenants allowing all members to select the pastor and lay leaders democratically.

Who were the Pilgrims in England and what churches did they attend?

The Pilgrims came out of three English churches.  The first one was the Southwark church.  The story begins with John Greenwood.  John Greenwood, a clergyman, was ordained at Lincoln in 1582, and served in Lincolnshire from 1582-83. Greenwood was arrested in Norfolk in 1585 probably for preaching without a license, or against the Church.

Also all of Britain was required to attend the Church of England.  Under the 1559 Act of Uniformity, it was illegal not to attend official Church of England services, with a fine of 12d for each missed Sunday and a holy day. The penalties for conducting unofficial services included imprisonment and larger fines.

In 1586 he was the recognized leader of the London Separatists, of whom a considerable number had been imprisoned at various times.  In 1586 he and a group of people were sent to jail for refusing to obey the religious laws of Elizabeth 1, thus beginning a tradition of religious dissent within Southwark located NE of London. The dissenters founded a prison church under the guidance of John Greenwood, and Henry Barrowe, a lawyer. They called themselves ‘Independents’ but were also known as ‘Brownists’ because of the freethinking of Robert Browne, the father of the Separatist movement.  Another clergyman, Francis Johnson, soon joined them. He had been ordered by the English Ambassador to Holland to buy and burn the books by Greenwood and Barrowe. Inspired by them he came to visit the authors and found himself being jailed with them!

In 1592 Greenwood, Barrowe and John Penry gained a temporary reprieve and began meeting at a house in the Borough and formally constituted the Southwark Independent Church.  This new congregation was being organized around Francis Johnson as its new Pastor, and John Greenwood as its Teacher.

However, the reprieve was short-lived and Greenwood and Barrowe were executed on 6th April 1593.   John Penry was also executed, at a site near the present day junction between Albany Road and Old Kent Road, on 29th May 1593. Roger Rippon, whose house was used for worship was arrested and died of disease in prison.  Eight imprisoned members of the Johnson-Greenwood congregation were released in April 1593.  Others congregation members were released in the fall of 1597, these made their way to their former congregation members in Holland.

On his release Francis Johnson finally settled in Holland where many of the Southwark dissenters had fled. The remaining members of the group continued to meet in secret before being brought into the open by Henry Jacob in 1616. The writings of Johnson had influenced Jacob and in 1620 some members of the Southwark Church were given permission to sail to America. It was this group who went on the Mayflower. They were a 7th Day Sabbath-keeping congregation.

GAINSBOROUGH CONGREGATION:

Between 1605-07 Richard Clifton had attempted to establish an Independent or Separatist congregation in the Gainsborough England area.  He joined ranks with Thomas Helwys.   During 1607, John Smyth was visiting Thomas Helwys, the Elder of the Scrooby separatist congregation located 12 miles from Gainsborough.  Smyth a former clergyman from Lincoln had been living in the area. Smyth was soon elected as the new pastor of the Gainsborough-on-Trent Congregation with Thomas Helwys as its Elder.

A decision was soon made to move both congregations to Holland for safety. The Gainsborough Congregation under Smyth and Helwys would depart first, and the Scrooby congregation would follow shortly later.

Members of a Brownist church in Gainsborough, went over in 1607 to Holland.  They left behind a few scattered friends at Scrooby, twelve miles to the west of Gainsborough in the Hundred of Basset Lawe, in Nottinghamshire, England.

Scrooby Congregation:

  • In 1608, Johnson’s Amsterdam congregation was invaded briefly by an influx of another Barrowist congregation from Gainsborough-on-Trent, under the leadership of John Smyth, a former clergyman and university friend of Johnson.  Some 125 members did arrive in Amsterdam during 1608 in dribbles and drabs, and by late 1608 most of the Scrooby congregation had arrived.
(Encyclopaedia Britannica, Micropaedia, 15th Edition, 1990, Vol. 10, pp. 114-5)

John Robinson:

In 1602 Robinson became a curate at St. Andrew’s Church, Norwich. His refusal to conform to the Anglican anti-Puritan decrees of 1604 led to his suspension from preaching, and in 1606 or 1607 he joined the Separatist congregation at Scrooby, Nottinghamshire. Also called Nonconformists, these early congregationalists wished to separate from the Church of England so they could follow what they believed to be purer and more simplified forms of church government and worship.

With the Scrooby congregation Robinson travelled to Amsterdam in 1608, but in 1609 he went with 100 of his followers to Leiden to escape the dissension prevalent among the other Nonconformist groups. As pastor at Leiden, he inspired the growth of his congregation to 300 members. One of them, William Bradford, who later became governor of Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts, likened Robinson’s congregation to the early Christian churches because of its “true piety, humble zeal and fervent love towards God and his Ways.”

  • Robinson entered Leiden University in 1615 to study theology, but by 1617 he and his followers were seeking a more secure and permanent location. In July 1620, while he remained with the majority who were not yet ready to travel, part of his congregation sailed for England aboard the Speedwell.  Before departure from Leiden, Robinson declared to them in a celebrated sermon, “For I am confident the Lord hath more truth and light yet to break forth out of His holy Word.”  The following September, 35 of them left Plymouth on the Mayflower for New England. Robinson died before he could leave Holland, and the remnant of his congregation was absorbed by the Dutch Reformed Church in 1658”. (Encyclopaedia Britannica, Micropaedia, 15th Edition, 1990, Vol. 10, pp. 114-5)

John Robinson received a letter from the Dutch Government granting him and the Brownist to settle and practice their faith in the Leiden, Holland:

Leiden Church:

According to the Lenden Museum, the Pilgrims joined the Mennonite church.  Below is a quote from the Lenden Museum:

  • “1609, the Pilgrims arrived from England as refugees. After a short period in Amsterdam, the Pilgrims received official permission to live in Leiden. The city’s response declared that Leiden refuses no honest people free entry to come live in the city, as long as they behave honestly and obey all the laws and ordinances, and under those conditions the applicants’ arrival here would be pleasing and welcome.” (999 / SA 300 Missives Book C fo. 126 / Letter)

“Letter sent by the city of Leiden to Jan Jansz. (van) Baersdorp, member of the Provincial Executive of the States of Holland, in reply to an undated letter received from him in 1609. Van Baersdorp is asked to hand to the lord grand pensionary (of Holland) the reply from the city of Leiden together with the request received from John Robinson and some members of the Christian Reformed Religion and the decision taken with regard to that request on February 12, 1609. The city of Leiden declares that when a request was received from John Robinson, pastor, and some members of the Christian Reformed Religion, all born in England, it was decided to grant permission to them to come and take up residence in Leiden. At the time the city of Leiden was not aware that the persons in question were members of the sect of the Brownists.”

The Pilgrims spent 11 years in Leiden, during which time they came into contact with Dutch Mennonites, French Calvinists, and other religious dissenters. In 1620, the Pilgrims set sail for the New World on the Mayflower.  The Leiden American Pilgrim Museum was founded in 1997 inside a house dating from around 1370, which may have sheltered the Pilgrims during their stay in Leiden.

Soon after they arrived in Holland they came under influence of the Anabaptist teachings through the Mennonite.  Smyth’s church in Amsterdam, founded on the principle of adult baptism in 1609, is considered the first truly Baptist church.  Two years later the congregation split with part of them remaining in Holland where they eventually united with the Mennonites, a 7th day Sabbath-keeping church. The other part, led by Thomas Helwys returned to England where they settled at Spitalfield just outside London.

The Mennonite Church descended from the Waldesians.  They were 7th day Sabbath Keepers.  Quotes below demonstrate how the Pilgrims moved to Holland and keep the Old Testment laws, the Sabbath, the Passover and circumcision:

The Anabaptist or Mennonites moved to Holland:

  • “We have now seen that the Baptists who were formerly called Anabaptists and in later times, Mennonites, were the original Waldenses and have long in the history of the church received the honor of that origin…. The Mennonites are descended from the tolerably pure evangelical Waldenses, who were driven by persecution into various countries’ and who during the latter part of the 13th C. fled into Flanders, and into the provinces of Holland and Zealand.”
(Dr. Ypeij and Rev. J.J. Dermout,History of the Dutch Reformed Church Vol. 1,1819.)
  • “In Holland where Anabaptists grew, the Waldenses were held to be the first propagandists of Anabaptist views on Holland soil. Also some of the oldest Mennonite families in Holland had names of Waldensian origin and claimed to be progeny of such exiled fathers.” (William R. Williams, Lecture on Baptist History, p. 127-128.)
  • “To speak my mind freely, if their (Waldensian) opinions and customs were to be examined without prejudice, it would appear that among all the modern sects of Christians, they had the greatest resemblance to that of the Mennonites or Dutch Baptists.” (Limborch, The History of the Inquisition, London, 1731.)
  • “Bohemia was once the headquarters of those Waldenses who had been driven from the valleys by persecution. Later it became the main head quarters for the Swiss Baptists, namely Hutterites (Mennonites).” (Peter Ruckman, History of the N.T. ChurchI, p. 407.)
  • “They who maintain the Saturday Sabbath to be in force, comply with the Anabaptists.” (Dr. Francis White, Treatise on the 7th Day, p. 132.)
  • Martin Luther states, “Thus all other religious tendencies act, aside from the true doctrine of Scriptures, as Mohammed of the Turks, the Talmud of the Jews, as also our Anabaptists, are almost the same; all forsake and abandon the true works and life God’s Word requires and urges…” Luther goes on to state, “the fanatical revilers of the sacrament (Anabaptists) were for all practical purposes indistinguishable from the Jews…” Luther writes Against the Sabbatarians in 1538 and accuses the Anabaptists of circumcision and partaking in Jewish ritual.  Luther was less tolerant of the Anabaptists than Jews since they “insinuate themselves upon the church and at the same time refuse to submit to its authority…” Luther also signed a memo in 1536 assessing the death penalty to all Anabaptists. (8th Sunday After Trinity, Sermons of Martin Luther, vol. 4.)
  • “We shall afterwards show that the rise of the Anabaptists took place prior to the reformation of the Church of England, and there are also reasons for believing that on the continent of Europe, small hidden Christian societies who have held many of the opinions of the Anabaptists, have existed from the time of the apostles. In the sense of the direct transmission of divine truth, and the true nature of spiritual religion, it seems probably that these churches have a lineage or succession more ancient then that of the Roman Church.” (Robert Barclay, The Innerlife of the Societies of the Commonwealth, p. 11-12, 1876.)
  • “The Anabaptists continued observing many of the same external points as the Waldensians, such as they viewed the Old Testament of great importance, retained the Waldensian translations of the Bible, which had the epistle of Paul to the Laodiceans, continued to worship using the same forms of prayers and hymns, the same observations of the (Passover) once a year, the same view towards congregation buildings free from idols and crosses, simple plain dress… all showing that the 16th C. Anabaptists descended from the Waldensians.” (John T. Christian,A History of the Baptists, Vol. I Ch. 7 and 8.)
  • “If the truth of religion were to be judged by the readiness and boldness of which a man of any sect shows suffering, then the opinion and persuasion of no sect can be truer and more sure than the Anabaptists since there have been none for these 1200 years past, that have cheerfully and steadfastly undergone, and even offered themselves to the most cruel sorts of punishment than these people…. Were it not that the Baptists (Anabaptists) have been grievously tormented and cut off with the knife during the past 1200 years, they would swarm in greater numbers than all the reformers.” (Cardinal Stanislaus Hosius, 1504-1579.)
  • “The modern Mennonites affirm that their predecessors were the descendants of the Waldenses.” (Mosheim, Institute of Ecclesiastical History, p. 200, 1755.)

These churches met with the Mennonite or Anabaptist which kept many of the Old Testament Law such as the 7th Day Sabbath.

Baptist heritage is more closely related to the Gainsborough congregation where John Smyth and Thomas Helwys were leaders.  Their congregation left England about 1607. Soon after they arrived in Holland they came under influence of the Anabaptist teachings through the Mennonites.

Smyth’s church in Amsterdam, founded on the principle of adult baptism in 1609, is considered the first truly Baptist church. Two years later the congregation split with part of them remaining in Holland where they eventually united with the Mennonites. The other part, led by Thomas Helwys returned to England where they settled at Spitalfield just outside London.

(Sanford, Don A., A Choosing People: The History of Seventh Day Baptists, Broadman Press, Nashville, Tennessee (1992) pp. 39-40, 86.)

In Fact the Scrooby Congregation started the 7th Day Baptist Church in America.

“Among the Scrooby congregation which fled to Holland but who did not come to America until a decade later was John Dunham, whose grandson, Reverend Edmund Dunham, founded the Seventh Day Baptist church in Piscataway, New Jersey, nearly a century later in 1705.”

(Sanford, Don A., A Choosing People: The History of Seventh Day Baptists, Broadman Press, Nashville, Tennessee (1992) pp. 39-40, 86.)

Based on what we have read, it is clear that the Pilgrims came from three churches Scrooby, Gainborough, and Southwark.  They fled to Holland where many attended with the Mennonites.  The Mennonites were the descendants for the Waldesians who fled also to Holland.  The Mennonites were 7th Day Sabbath Keepers.  Members from the Scrooby Congregation later founded the Seventh Day Baptist Church in 1705.  Both John Robinson and William Bradford were members of the Scrooby Congregation. William Bradford was the Pilgrim leader in Plymouth.

BOTTOM LINE IS THAT THIS COUNTRY IS BLESSED AND WAS BLESSED BECAUSE THE FOUNDERS KEPT THE SABBATH AND YHVH’S WAYS (HIS TORAH).

Thanksgiving: A Festival with Hebrew Roots

Thanksgiving: A Festival with Hebrew Roots | Suite101

America’s Thanksgiving holiday began in 1621 and can trace its roots back to the Hebrew Festival of the Booths (Sukkot) that celebrated the harvest with a feast of thanksgiving as described in Leviticus [16:15].

Time To Start Eating Meat! | Has The Time Come For Believers To Grow Up & Start Searching For Themselves?

how-to-draw-a-baby-drinking-milkHebrews 5:11: concerning whom [Jesus/Yahshuah] we have much to say, and hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.

Hebrews 5:12: For indeed, although by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first elements of the Words of Elohim [First elements are referencing Torah or the Oracles of God. All of theses things were studied daily and weekly in homes and synagogues during Yahshuah’s time]. And you have become such as those who need milk and not solid food.

Hebrews 5:13: For everyone partaking of milk is inexperienced in the word of righteousness [word of Torah], for he is a babe.

Hebrews 5:14: But solid food is for the mature [those who are experienced in the word of Torah] whose senses have been trained by practice [understanding and living righteousness] to discern both good and evil.

To understand this portion of scripture, we have to come to terms that the disciples and the apostles were well versed in the Torah [the first elements of God] and knew what Yahweh expected of them. There was no “New Testament” when they were fulfilling the great commission. They were keeping the feasts, gathering on Sabbath and reading Torah, and studying the Scriptures [Torah, Prophets, Writings] daily. When they were preaching, teaching, and spreading the good news of Yahshuah, they were coming up against gentile converts who were coming out of pagan upbringings and backgrounds. Unfortunately, a majority of these new converts were choosing to accept the salvation message of Yahshuah the high priest and atoner of sins, however, they were continuing to stay entrenched in their pagan practices. These converts were also neglecting to go to synagogue on Sabbath and learn the torah and the perfect law of Yahweh in order to understand and live in righteousness. This is why the writers of Hebrews felt compelled to say what they said at the end of Hebrews chapter 5. Jeremiah and Amos also mention this problem in the following passages:

Amos 2:4: Thus said יהוה, “For three transgressions of Yehuḏah, and for four, I do not turn it back, because they have rejected the Torah of יהוה, and did not guard His laws. And their lies after which their fathers walked lead them astray.

Jeremiah 16:19: O יהוה, my strength and my stronghold and my refuge, in the day of distress the gentiles shall come to You from the ends of the earth and say, “Our fathers have inherited only falsehood, futility, and there is no value in them.”

Jeremiah 10:2: Thus said יהוה, “Do not learn the way of the gentiles, and do not be awed by the signs of the heavens, for the gentiles are awed by them.

With that in mind, we have to examine the church today and come to terms with the fact that we are still up against the same battle. So many sheeple are going to church and turning to their church fathers which have inherited falsehood, futility, and things of no value for answers to the harder questions of the faith rather than searching the scriptures [entire bible, not just the new testament] on their own and submitting to the heart of Yahweh no matter who agrees or disagrees with them. Again this comes down to the heart of the searcher. If they are looking for loopholes so that they can maintain their comfortable way of life, circle of friends, church family, and comfortable lifestyle, they will find more than enough answers from the fathers of falsehood. It is our responsibility to search the scriptures, which are inspired by the Master יהוה [every jot and every tittle from beginning to end]. As I write this I cannot help but feel a sense of frustration because the things I am saying should be widely accepted by the followers of Messiah, however, it seems that so many Christians continue to drink milk in spite of the feast that Yahweh has put at the banquet table in the perfectness of His word. It is easy to understand the frustration of the writers of Hebrews. Now that we have built a solid foundation of what is expected, let me leave you with this final thought:

Studying in the word and understanding the word of Yahweh is a lot like learning how to cook. When we are babies we drink milk. After a period of time our mothers begin to wean us off of the milk and start feeding us solid food. Then a few years go by and mom starts making the peanut butter sandwiches with chips. Eventually mom and dad start to allow us to make our own peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and occasionally we are allowed to open a can of chili and heat it up in a pot on the stove. Our parents are doing something so profound, they are slowly teaching us to become independent and feed ourselves because they know that the day will come that they will not be there to cook a well balanced, nutritious meal for their children. Their children will need to learn to cook for themselves. Everyone knows that a diet of cold cereal and peanut butter sandwiches is not healthy and we need to eat a balanced diet. Although we are always welcome at our parent’s house for a home cooked meal, we are now responsible to cook our own meals and lead an independent life. Why then is it any different in our walk with Yahweh and our understanding of His scriptures? To many of us are going to church every week hoping to get a big helping of milk from the “man of God” who is now responsible for feeding the sheeple milk on a weekly basis. Although his/her intentions are pure [most of the time], Yahweh never intended His people to continue, “milking the breast of the sovereigns.”

Isaiah 60:16: “And you shall drink dry the milk of the gentiles, and shall milk the breast of sovereigns. And you shall know that I, יהוה, your Saviour and your Redeemer, am the Elohim of Ya‛aqoḇ.

It is time to start making some steak dinners my friends. It is time to find the answers for yourself in the scriptures of Yahweh and not try to find loopholes. We need to check our hearts and be willing to change no matter what the consequence.

II Chronicles 16:9: “For the eyes of יהוה diligently search throughout all the earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is perfect to Him.

Jeremiah 17:10: “I, יהוה, search the heart, I try the kidneys, and give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.

Jeremiah 29:13: ‘And you shall seek Me, and shall find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Ecclesiastes 7:25: I have turned round, even my heart, to know and to search, and to seek out wisdom and a conclusion, to know the wrongness of folly, even of foolishness and madness.

Ecclesiastes 1:13: And I set my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all that has been done under the heavens; this evil task Elohim has given to the sons of man, to be humbled by it.

Psalms 139:23: Search me, O Ěl, and know my heart; Try me, and know my thoughts;

Psalms 44:21: Would Elohim not search this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart.

IF WE SEEK, WE WILL FIND!

Deuteronomy 4:29: “But from there you shall seek יהוה your Elohim, and shall find, when you search for Him with all your heart and with all your being.

Jeremiah 29:13: ‘And you shall seek Me, and shall find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Matthew 7:7: “Ask and it shall be given to you, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened to you.

One final thought about FEAR. There are many who have a desire to search but they are afraid of being led astray or being deceived. This is a contradiction to the scriptures that were mentioned above. There is no way that the scriptures of Yahweh can deceive us especially when the Torah, The Prophets, and The Gospels all say, “if you seek you will find”. The biggest deception that the enemy has embedded in the hearts of believers is the fear of searching. We have not been given a spirit of fear. Fear is from the enemy and therefore the only thing that we need to be afraid of is the “falsehood, futility, and things of no value” that we have inherited from our fathers. Although there have been things hidden throughout the ages, Yahweh is opening the eyes of His people through his word. Do not be afraid, trust in Yahweh, search your heart, and change accordingly.

Shalom,

[NO ROOM FOR TORAH] Pope warns church must find balance between rules and mercy or “fall like a house of cards” | Fox News

Pope warns church must find balance between rules and mercy or

Commentary – Before you read this article let me tell you a few things. Yahshuah (Jesus) says in Matthew Chapter 7,

15 “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? 17 So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 So then, you will know them by their fruits.
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM MEYOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS [torahlessness].’

This is important to understand in the times we are in. The Torah is very clear and does not leave grey area in order that we can be more accommodating to a torahless world. When the Apostles were spreading the gospel, they kept coming up against the same spirit of acceptance and inclusion which was even addressed by Paul who never new Yahshuah personally. Yahshuah of Nazareth precedes one of the most powerful statements He made in His entire ministry by addressing false prophets and those who would try to change the Words of YAHWEH (The Torah) in order to make the church bigger and become more prominent. Yahshuah new that we would get caught up in the “churchiness” of church or the commercial (merchandising) aspect of the ministry/great commission. This is why he ends the statement with “I NEVER KNEW YOU; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE TORAHLESSNESS”. Torah is YAHWEH’S instructions and it is eternal and it never changes not even if we want to make sure the church doesn’t shrink in size or accommodate a changing world. We were warned in Matthew 24:7 by Yahshuah,

37 For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah.

It does not get much clearer than this. We have to see the writing on the wall and not feel bad for taking a stand on the WAYS of YAHWEH. If we do not stand up for Torah we will end up like Sodom and destruction will be eminent. If you hate Torah and think it is not fair, then you need to join the New Atheist Church. new https://bereanreport.wordpress.com/2013/09/23/uhh-ohh-sunday-assembly-is-the-hot-new-atheist-church-the-daily-beast/

15 If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

Pope Francis is warning that the Catholic Church’s moral edifice might “fall like a house of cards” if it doesn’t balance its divisive rules about abortion, gays and contraception with the greater need to make the church a merciful, more welcoming place for all.

Six months into his papacy, Francis set out his vision for the church and his priorities as pope in remarkably candid and lengthy interview with La Civilta Cattolica, the Italian Jesuit magazine. It was published simultaneously Thursday in other Jesuit journals, including America magazine in the U.S.

In the 12,000-word article, Francis expands on his ground-breaking comments over the summer about gays and acknowledges some of his own faults.

Should Christians Celebrate the Birth of Jesus or Paul? – The Daily Beast

Nativity

It is highly unlikely that Paul intended christianity to become what it is today, however, I find it interesting that secular media is now starting to pick up on the distinct differences between what Y’Shuah taught and what his ministry consisted of and what modern Christianity has become today. Even the secular media and those who read it see this yet most Christians today refuse to see the stark contrast between the ministry of Yahshuah (The Jew) and Christ (Constantine’s Christianity). -The Berean

Millions celebrate the birth of Jesus without realizing that it was the Apostle Paul, not Jesus, who was the founder of Christianity. Jesus was a Jew not a Christian. He regularly went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, read from the Torah, observed the Jewish festivals such as Passover and Yom Kippur, and quoted the Shema: “Hear O Israel, The Lord our God is One Lord.” In Jesus’ day the closest holiday to Christmas was the Roman celebration of theSaturnalia.

BBC News – ‘World’s oldest Torah’ scroll found in Italy

Torah Scroll

The University of Bologna in Italy has found what it says may be the oldest complete scroll of Judaism’s most important text, the Torah.

The scroll was in the university library but had been mislabelled, a professor at the university says.

It was previously thought the scroll was no more that a few hundred years old.

However, after carbon dating tests, the university has said the text may have been written more than 850 years ago.

The university’s Professor of Hebrew Mauro Perani says this would make it the oldest complete text of the Torah known to exist, and an object of extraordinary worth.

The university says that in 1889 one of its librarians, Leonello Modona, had examined the scroll and dated it to the 17th Century.

However, when Prof Perani recently re-examined the scroll, he realised the script used was that of the oriental Babylonian tradition, meaning that the scroll must be extremely old.

Another reason for the dating is that the text has many features forbidden in later copies under rules laid down by the scholar Maimonides in the 12th Century, the university says.

Torahphobia and Quadcommdecaphobia | How to Heal TpD & TpSD!

Medical_Symbol“Torahphobia” [to-rah-fo-bi-uh] –noun. An intellectual disorder characterized by extreme, persistent, and irrational fear of Torah, the unfounded fear of the activity of obeying Torah, or a situation that leads to a compelling desire to avoid Torah sometimes accompanied by ad hominem attacks on those who love Torah.

Interruption: For those who don’t know:
In this context, TORAH (eng. Law) is the eternal covenant instructions for righteousness given to all Israel through Moses that is to be eternally written upon our hearts. It is also known as the books of Genesis through Deuteronomy. Torah in this context does NOT include non scriptural add ons or ancient customs that are known as the Oral Law or Talmud.

Consequences of Torahphobia: May be eternal and may prevent some from hearing, obeying, or entering the renewed covenant in Y’shua. (See Lev 18:5, Ezekiel 20:11, Matthew 19:17, Mark 10:17-31, Luke 10:25-28)

Acute symptoms include cerebral cortex edema leading to a loss of basic fundamental logical reasoning and reading skills. (See Galatians 3:1)

Chronic symptoms of Toraphobia include eating swine, shellfish, and all other unclean foods, the blatant celebration of the abominations and the non scripturally inspired holy days including but not limited to x-mas, valentines day, sun-day spiritual exercises, etc. (See Leviticus 11, Deut 12:31-32)

To date there is only one known cure: A love inspired obedience to Torah through the redemptive work of Y’shua. This is also the prerequisite to receiving the Set Apart (Holy) Spirit of YHWH. (See John 14:15-26)

There is a treatment plan for those who are resistant to Torah but have a positive diagnosis leading towards a potential cure. I would suggest love but love can be manifest in many ways. For example we can be brutally honest in sharing scripture and that is a form of love. Warning people who are on a path to destruction is a form of love. (See Ezekiel 3) But we have to remember that It’s a painful treatment for those with TpD (Torahphobia Disorder). Unfortunately for some, this method of love can have unexpected consequences such as an acute flareup which sometimes causes facebook defriending and emotional and irrational outbursts of rage directed towards the witness/messenger. Those who experience an acute flareup may apologize out of shame, however, unless true repentance to Torah from Torahlessness is experienced, they may experience flareups again. Please be patient with those suffering from TpD. (Please Understand that those who suffer from chronic bad breath don’t realize that they have it.)

A Comprehensive approach to treatment must be considered.

A clinical study is necessary on some unsuspecting Torahphobics. But the bottom line is that they have to be willing to admit that they have TpD. Once they come to grips with that, the prognosis can be very good. There may be a 12 step program which will cause one to understand their Identity in Messiah (Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Zebulun, Issachar, Dan, Gawd, Asher, Napthali, Joseph (Ephraim, Manasseh), Benjamin) however that will cause one to realize that Israel has NOT been replaced by the torahless ‘church’. (See Gen 49, Matthew 15:24)

I plan to seek a subspecialty in TpD as part of my self proclaimed DMin (Doctor of Ministry) degree. Sadly the cure rate is limited to a group defined as the remnant. (See Jeremiah 3:14, 50:20) Finding a common symptom or variant in that group may go a long way towards achieving our treatment goals.

If TpD causes stress, then one might be diagnosed as TpSD.

If you or a loved one are ever caught on your computer looking like this while arguing with a person over whether or not Torah has been ended, finished, or null and void, you may be suffering from TpSD:

Sometimes when people discover the Path to Life, which is a love inspired obedience to Torah through the redemptive work of Y’shua, a Torahphobic will inevitably become a Toraholic (which is good).

A simple response to a Toraphobic is “Y’shua reiterated, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by EVERY word that comes from the mouth of YHWH.”

[I read the book of John this last week in the Aramaic Peshitta and Y’Shuah tells the disciples that He is the bread of life but before he does, he reminds them of the manna that YHWH provided for them in the wilderness in order to sustain them until they went into the land. Later in chapter 6 he goes on to speak in parables and shows them how now he is the bread of life sent by the father to sustain us (intermediate and act as high priest) until His return as King/Judge.  “6:32 Y’Shuah then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven (he was trying to get them out of the earthly mindset but into the things of the spirit), but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven (He is referencing Himself as the Bread of Life). 6:33 For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.”

Later on in John before He was turned over to the authorities, the disciples were confused about his message regarding eating the bread (flesh) and drinking the wine (blood). This is a big stumbling block for many modern Jews. The ancient Jews had the same confusion so Y’Shuah decided to clear things up. They were wording among themselves because as Jews they knew this was an abomination, however He told the disciples that he was speaking (wording) to them in parables because he “doctrinates” in spirit and life (the things of the spirit and the things of the earth/life). The Aramaic Peshitta Literal Translation states, “And Y’Shuah knows in his soul that his disciples are murmuring concerning it, and he words to them, This offends you? – So what if you see the Son of humanity ascending to where he had been before (Things of the spirit…..their spiritual perception was weak)? The spirit enlivens: the body (earthly perception/flesh) profits naught whatever: the words I word to you are spirit and life: but there are some of you who have no trust. During this gospel, Y’Shuah emphasizes over and over that we need to believe and to trust.

With that in mind, when Y’Shuah says, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of YHWH”, not only is he (Y’Shuah) the WORD (John 1:1), he is the bread. Therefore we need to be sustained by the bread (Y’Shuah sent by YHWH) and the Word (Torah fulfilled by Y’Shuah and sent by YHWH). Matthew Chapter 5 “17 Do not think that I came to abolish the Torah or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. 18 For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Torah until all is accomplished. 19 Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”]

Other similar diagnoses that may be initially diagnosed as Torahphobia include but are not limited to the following:

Tricommdecaphobia [tri-kommd-dek-uh-foh-bee-uh,]
-noun
An intellectual disorder characterized by extreme, persistent, and irrational fear of or phobia of obedience to the third command of the ‘decalogue’.

“You do not bring the Name of יהוה your Elohim to vain emptiness, for יהוה does not leave the one unpunished who brings His Name to naught.” (VAIN=שׁוא/shav: false, falsely, vain, vainly, desolate)

A common symptom of tricommdecaphobia is to insist on calling our Father by a name that is not His Name thus bringing his Name to vain emptiness. This is not a reference to the utilization of a title or character trait such as Wonderful, Almighty, etc. Examples of these include but are not limited to believing that His name is ‘Lord’ or ‘God’ or that ‘Jesus’ is the Name that He instructed His people to call His son.

A potential treatment for tricommdecaphobia is to do as the ancients did:“And to Shĕth, to him also a son was born. And he called his name Enosh. Then it was begun to call on the Name of יהוה.” Genesis 4:26 “And he built there an altar to יהוה, and called on the Name of יהוה.” Genesis 12:8 “And there Aḇram called on the Name of יהוה.” Genesis 13:4 “And he built an altar there, and called on the Name of יהוה, and he pitched his tent there, and the servants of Yitsḥaq dug a well there.” Genesis 26:25 “”And you shall call on the name of your mighty one, and I, I call on the Name of יהוה.” (EliYahu) 1Kings 18:24 “And it shall be that everyone who calls on the Name of יהוה shall be delivered.” Joel 2:32 “For “everyone who calls on the Name of יהוה shall be saved.” Romans 10:13
Quadcommdecaphobia [kwad-kommd-dek-uh-foh-bee-uh,]
-noun
An intellectual disorder characterized by extreme, persistent, and irrational fear of or phobia of a love inspired obedience to the fourth command of the Decalogue that simply tells us to work six days then rest.

“Remember the Sabbath day,to set it apart.”

Sadly this is probably the most misunderstood and misappropriated command but yet, perhaps the one of easiest to observe. Disobedience or rebelliousness of the 4th command has led many to their destruction. (See Numbers 15:32-36, Exodus 35:2, Nehemiah 13:18, Jeremiah 17:21-27, Ezekiel 20:13,16,21,24; 22:8,26; 23:38)

Most Torahphobics and Quadcommdecaphobics do not realize that it is the only sign of YHWH setting us (Yisrael) apart, and it is the only sign of the everlasting covenant with our Father YHWH. (See Exodus 31:13-16, Ezekiel 20:12, 20)

Most Torahphobics and Quadcommdecaphobics do not understand that there is a specific blessing over the Sabbath of YHWH and a specific blessing upon those who guard to obey. (See Gen 2:3, Isaiah 58:13-14)

Most Torahphobics and Quadcommdecaphobics do not realize that in the eternal Kingdom, people will observe the Sabbath of YHWH in His land. (See Isaiah 66:23, Ezekiel 46:3)

And countless millions have been led to believe by other non sabbath observers that it has been overturned and not applicable in the lives of the believer. (See: NO scripture reference for this)

It is also very saddening that approximately 100% of Torahphobics and Quadcommdecaphobics who do not observe to obey the 4th command teach others that it is not necessary to obey thus fulfilling the words of Y’shua. (See Matthew 5:19, 7:21, Mark 7:7-10)

Around the time of the invention of the Universal (Catholic) Church under which most of the false religions of the world were unified, Torah observant believers were persecuted for observing the 7th day Sabbath when the Church created a non scriptural law declaring sun-day to be the perpetual day of rest. (See: Canon 29 of the Synod of Laodicea –http://www.newadvent.org/fathers/3806.htm) This may have been the fulfillment of the Daniel 7:25 prophecy.

Interestingly enough to the surprise of the Universal Church, her protestant offspring still observe the false day of rest in lieu of the 7th day Sabbath. (See: THE CATHOLIC EXTENSION MAGAZINE editorial response –http://www.blowthetrumpet.org/AnExtraordinaryAdmission.htm)

Auspiciously for many who have ears to hear, a simple step towards a love inspired obedience to this command will lead people to depart from the false way to destruction and enter into the covenant of YHWH by belief with a corresponding obedience to the standard as set forth by YHWH Himself and renewed through the redemptive work of Y’shua.

A potential good side effect in the step of faith towards a love inspired obedience is the ears and eyes of the believer being opened to many truths contained in scripture including ones heritage/inheritance. (See Isaiah 58:13-14) Often people realize that many of the church rituals do not line up with scripture and they cease to observe that which is false. These include but are not limited to the sacraments, liturgy, and the observance of pagan holy days such as Christmas, Eastar, sun-day observance, Halloween or the cutely named Christian alternative, and lent among others.

Other benefits include realizing and observing the nature and purpose of the true Appointed Times of YHWH as laid out in Leviticus 23. Typically however, the new Torah observant believer in Messiah becomes very excited about YHWH and His appointed times that we observe as a celebration of Messiah. This will often lead to new people being exposed to their own Torahphobic tendencies when they hear that their former church friends are no longer observing the Christian holy days, the ritual church attendance, and the utilization of false names for our Creator and His Messiah thus starting the cycle all over again.

But it is in this walk that we find many new family members and friends who are full of the love of YHWH and His Torah to which we have been redeemed.

But beware because compromisers are still out there ready to lead you on a path that is not the דרך הקדשׁ (Derecha HaKadosh) also known as ‘The Way of Set-apartness’. (See Isaiah 35:8. Psalm 77:13)

Shalom to All!

2 Corinthians 10:5-6
We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of Elohim, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Messiah, and we are ready to punish all disobedience, whenever your obedience is complete.

*PLEASE DO NOT BE THE ONE WHO Y’SHUAH IS TALKING ABOUT IN MATTHEW 7:21.

Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS (TORAHLESSNESS).’

יברך אותך בשם יהוה
Bless you in the Name of YHWH

Our Family Statement of Beliefs
“Hear, O Israel: YHWH our Elohim, YHWH is One!“

And you shall love YHWH your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your being, and with all your might. And these Words which I am commanding you today shall be in your heart, and you shall impress them upon our children, and shall speak of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up, and shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”[1]“. . .Love your Neighbor as yourself. I am YHWH”.[2]

We believe that All Scripture is breathed by Elohim and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for setting straight, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of Elohim might be fitted, equipped for every good work.[3]

We believe that YHWH gave us the “Torah of YHWH[4]” that is perfect[5] and full of the Spirit of YHWH[6] which along with His commands are Set Apart[7], and showed us His right rulings which if a man does he shall live by them[8] and have the right to the Tree of Life[9]. Through obedience to His Torah near to and written upon our hearts[10], which we are required for salvation[11] to do and teach[12], we demonstrate our love to Him[13] and abide in His love[14] because He hears us[15].

We believe that we should have no other Elohim before the face of YHWH.[16] We recognize that false elohim can include anyone, any doctrine, or anything that sets itself up against the knowledge of YHWH.[17]

We believe that we shall not bring the name of YHWH our Elohim to Vain emptiness by forbidding the use thereof or replacing His name with false names[18]. He desires for us to know[19] declare[20] and call upon[21] and be saved through[22] His True name YHWH, the greatest name[23], his set apart (Holy) name[24], which He gave to Himself[25], for which He acts[26], and has revealed it to us throughout scripture and through His Son[27] [28], our Messiah Y’shua who has the same name as the father[29] and literally means ” YHWH is salvation or YAH is salvation”[30] through whom and whose name we believe[31] and enter into a relationship with YHWH.[32]

We believe the eternal commandment to guard the Shabbat (Sabbath) [33] Day of YHWH, the Seventh day of the week to set it apart[34]. On His day which we observe and celebrate, we do not work and we do not cause anyone to work for us[35]. We recognize that we are blessed through the obedience of guarding the Shabbat.[36] We set apart this day to put aside our own pleasures, we shall call the Shabbat a ‘delight’, set apart and esteemed by YHWH during which we Honor YHWH[37]. We recognize that Israel was put away for profaning the laws and Shabbat[38] which is the sign that Israel (former and redeemed) and foreigners who join themselves to Israel[39] are set apart unto YHWH.[40]

We believe that YHWH gave us the goal of His Living Torah[41], Messiah Y’shua[42] who did not come to destroy the Torah and the Prophets but that through Him, it will be brought to complete fulfillment[43]. We believe that the son of YHWH is Y’shua and they are eternally one[44] as they have always been. Y’shua has been revealed throughout the Hebrew Scriptures through personal manifestations and also as the את (Aleph & Tav).[45]

We believe that Messiah Y’shua was “sent only to the Lost Sheep of Israel”[46] and told us, His disciples, to “go to the lost sheep of the House of Israel”[47]. We are to go make disciples of all nations teaching them to guard and obey The Torah which is all that He has commanded us[48]. In making disciples, we fish for Israel[49] in exile scattered throughout the foreign (gentile) lands[50] from where we shall be gathered.[51]

We believe that through Messiah Y’shua[52] there will be a complete two house restoration of Israel[53] (House of Judah and House of Israel) which has not yet been completed[54] over which Messiah Y’shua will reign[55]. Israel was sent into exile with a certificate of divorce[56] for their adulterous disobedience to His Torah. We define Israel as the genetic descendants (some known only to YHWH) of Jacob the patriarch of all 12 Tribes. We believe this also includes people from the nations who are not Israel who are grafted in[57] through belief in Messiah Y’shua along with a corresponding obedience to His eternal Torah[58]. We know that though it is His desire that none should perish, not all Israel will repent[59]. A remnant of Israel who are believers in Messiah Y’shua[60] and upon whom the Torah is written on their hearts[61] (including people from the nations who, like Israel, believe that Y’shua is Messiah) will be brought back to the Land of Israel as given to Abraham for this end time restoration[62]. (This means that we do not accept what has become known as “Replacement Theology” which teaches that the “Church”, including those believers who do not follow Torah, has replaced true, repentant, and Torah loving redeemed Israel (Described Above), as the group who will receive all of the blessings and promises that were promised to Israel in the TeNaK (Torah, Prophets, Writings) without actually having to be obedient to Torah.)

We believe that it is by grace that we have been saved through faith in Messiah Y’shua and that this is not of ourselves, it is the Gift of Elohim; not as a result of works so that no one may boast.[63] For this reason, as His workmanship, we are created for good works that Elohim prepared for us beforehand to walk in[64]. As a result of this we have the opportunity to freely enter into the Renewed Covenant through the blood of Messiah Y’shua[65].

We believe that faith without works is dead[66] and that we must work out our Salvation with fear and trembling.[67] Therefore we work out our salvation through a loving, love inspired[68] obedience to his Torah. By keeping the commandments we have life[69] and are blessed with blessing.[70]

We believe that we are to live by and be led by the Spirit of the Truth of YHWH Elohim[71] which is manifest through Torah of the Spirit of Life in Y’shua Messiah which empowers us to honor, love, and respect the Torah of YHWH in order to be the children of YHWH[72]. The prerequisite to receiving the Ruach HaKodesh (Set Apart Spirit) is keeping the commandments[73].

We believe that each year we should assemble together[74] to Enjoy, Celebrate, and Honor the Seven Appointed Festivals of YHWH Elohim[75] which Messiah Observed and Celebrated[76] and which we will to continue to celebrate[77] into eternity. These appointed feasts are a sign of things that have been and which are to come and they are the mark of YHWH that we are to receive on our foreheads and our hands[78]. We celebrate these Festivals knowing that we are not required to present the sacrificial offerings because Messiah was offered for us, we do not live in the land, and the Temple is no longer intact. In Celebrating His Appointed Festivals[79], we will not celebrate traditional religious holy days which have its roots in ancient Egyptian and Babylonian religions[80]. Among the seven appointed festivals of YHWH is the Eternally Commanded Shabbat. Therefore, we will not participate the Catholic doctrine where the 7th Day Shabbat Obedience has been replaced by Sunday observance.[81]

We will teach our children to walk in the ways of YHWH according to His Torah[82] and not cause them to stumble[83] because the blessings of the faith of Abraham are upon his sons who teach their children to guard the commands[84].

In these latter days, we will understand the purposes of YHWH’s heart which shall be done and established.[85]
